Music is a means for community cohesion.

Vision of Music was founded by three young musicians with the aim of sharing their love of music by providing participatory music activities to those who might otherwise have very limited opportunities to access music education to give them additional future career options. At present we are working with the Osu Children’s Home and hope to reach out to many more with the gift of music to help make a difference in their lives.

The organisation’s mission focuses on engaging children and young people aged 6 – 18 years in the world of music. The key aim of our mission is the provision of participatory music classes and to increase their music making abilities within formal settings such as a Saturday Music School and working with orphanages in Ghana to create cohesion among communities who would otherwise not engage with each other through extra curricular activity. Participants will gain valuable life skills such as self discipline as well as the hard work that it takes to practice every day thus fostering the benefits of the returns that comes with sticking with something which will enable them to contribute to their community.

Tutors

Our tutors will primarily come from local talents with a strong emphasis on training the participating young people to read music and play musical instruments.  The emphasis of our provision is exploration of classical music but there is also a blending of other musical genres such as jazz, gospel, folk etc as well as the cultural influences of Ghana.  This is to ensure that our projects stay close to the social and cultural influences of our communities and the young people we work with.

What we offer:

Individual lessons:

Individual lessons will involve young people learning to read music and to play acoustic musical instruments as well as music theory.

Ensemble Development:

This opportunity engenders the development of a community of musicians who support each other in playing as a group.  It is also a very important factor in their music education that provides an explorative fusion of music genres to young people and how they work together to enhance and broaden their experiences within the music world.

Career and other development:

We aim to use music education as a platform to encourage cohesion and build musical communities to the benefit of all. The long term aim is to support the creation of musical careers among the young people and provide   peer mentoring and volunteering opportunities between Ghana and the wider world.  We are also working towards fostering opportunities for training within the music industry through collaborations with international partners.
